Black Eyed Peas are better than ever!

Black Eyed Peas are back and they are better than ever! Why? Because now they are a band of brothers again that know how to get the crowd going. They formed a unity, created an amazing set and still know how to party. The masters of the sun rocked the Hallenstadion and to all the people who didn’t go just because that lady isn’t in the group anymore – too bad, you missed out!

Embracing Technology

Taboo, Apl.de.ap and Will.i.am are into technology and I love it! Artists who are moaning about people in the audience pointing phones at their faces annoy me. I agree sometimes during a beautiful ballade it can be a bit too much. However BEP managed to embrace this trend and used it to their advantage. Before the show they told us to download the tour app and during certain songs we enjoyed an AR experience which was incredible and soooo much fun!!! ๐Ÿ˜€
BEP
First things first: The Black Eyed Peas came on stage showed us that they are “Back 2 Hip Hop”. The guys rapped superbly and I just felt sooo happy to see them again after 7 years! I still remember their sold out Hallenstadion show like it was yesterday. I really wished that they would start with “Let’s get it started” and they fulfilled my wish ๐Ÿ™‚ I was up dancing and some other people on the seats were too! One of my fav song is “Imma Be” and yes the song got stuck in my head all night. “Imma Be” turned into “Rock that body” in one swift go. More and more people were caught up again the world of the BEP and started dancing and enjoying themselves. The electronic vibe continued with Boom Boom Pow”.

Welcome Jessica Reynoso

Of course the three guys needed some female vocals and they found it in Jessica Reynoso. Apl.de.ap found her on the Voice of Philippines and made her part of the crew for the Masters of the sun tour. What an amazing chance and the lads gave her room to shine which I thought was lovely. With “Just Can’t get enough” and “Shut up” the Black Eyed Peas continued their hit set. I really loved how much they seemed to enjoy themselves and this naturally transferred itself onto the audience. Everyone had a good time! The stage was set as a huge pyramid with the band playing on level 3 and BEP’s singing on level 2 and 1. They seemed so together and performed in a group which I didn’t feel like that did back in 2010.

For the next one they said the UK peeps went absolutely mental and I think the Swiss audience did quiet a good job too. During “Pump it” there was even a small mosh pit on the side. There was enough space that different groups of people could actually dance or mosh how they wanted. Those gigs are the best! Good atmosphere, space to dance makes for an overall brilliant gig. “Pump it” marked the end of the first hit act.

Act 2 – May we introduce the new BEP

If you watched the Voice UK you’ve noticed that Will.i.am uses the word dope a loot. So this new song “Dopeness” comes as no surprise to me ๐Ÿ˜€ The new songs are really more hip-hopy again. “Ring the alarm” and “Constant” followed. The pyramid stage actually served as a huge screen and the projections were incredible. But this was topped during the next song. It was time to get out phones and activate the MOTS-app. During “Big Love” we were able to send heart towards the stage. It was so much fun sending as much hearts as I could. I couldn’t stop laughing and the song was over way too soon ๐Ÿ˜€

Black Eyed Peas remixed “Dum Diddly” from their debut record with “Mi Gente” and it made for a great party song. After this it was time for each Black Eyed Pea to step into the spotlight by themselves. Taboo was up first. He told us that he’s been battling cancer the last four years and is now super grateful to be back on stage. I was shocked! He smoothlessly rapped to “Rocking the Beat” and deserved the huge applause that followed. Apl.de.ap was up next with “Bebot” and Jessica took the spotlight with a Beyoncรฉ cover “Love on Top”. And finally Will.i.am took the stage with a medley of “This is love”/”#thatPower”/”Scream & Shout”

Final Act – Party on

It was clear that with “Don’t Stop the Party” and “The Time (Dirty Bit)” the Black Eyed Peas wanted us to party on. Almost everyone were on their feet rocking out! Their breakthrough hit “Where is the love?” is still very current and I had goosebumps while they performed it. If you think about it, it’s unbelievable. BEP released it in 2003 and 15 years later it still sounds like it’s written just this year. To finish this amazing performance we needed to get our phones out again to enjoy the AR experience ๐Ÿ˜€ With “I Got A Feeling” a huge pyramid dance floor stage was projected on top of the actual pyramid stage and the lights on the phone added to the lights on stage and it really was an incredible experience. We were jumping up and down with out phones – sooo much fun ๐Ÿ˜€

The wait is almost over for Walking on Cars fans!

So this is the last night of the Baloise Session 2018 and it’s “Indie Chartbreakers”-Night! I am super excited to see Walking On Cars for the 5th time! Why? Because they are in the middle of their songwriting process of their 2nd album and yes they are playing new songs!!!! Before they hit the stage LP will warm up the crowd.

LP

I’ve had many chances to see LP live but her style of singing is just not for me. Plus I don’t like if artists whistle all the time. I don’t why but I just don’t think there is any reason why whistling should be put in songs ๐Ÿ™‚ However lots of people disagree with me and came to see LP performing at the Baloise Session and let me tell they weren’t disappointed! I might not like her style of music but I do think she’s super nice. She collected lots of fan presents during the fourth song. She took her time and said hi to everyone. I absolutely loved that.

What I loved too is that she came down to us more than once and walked through the audience. She gave absolutely everything during her 1h 15mins set and I can appreciate that even if I’m not a fan of her music.

Walking on Cars

We were so excited to see them like I already mentioned! So when they started with “Tick Tock” we were totally in the groove and it felt like they’ve never been gone. After “As we fly south” Sorcha had some technical problems with her key board. So Patrick tried himself as an entertainer and cracked a joke. However I don’t think it suits him. The joke was pretty bad and only a few laughed. Maybe it was also because of the language barrier that people didn’t really laugh. Luckily after a few mins he got the go ahead and was able to perform “Ship Goes Down”. His dancing shows a lot of passion and to other people it might look weird but it just shows how passionate he is. LOL

Finally three songs were over and we were able to claim our first row spot ๐Ÿ™‚ “At Gunpoint” and “Love backs down” were next. The latter is one of my fav songs! The energy, the rhythm.. just everyone makes it so special to hear it live. I also loved that the we had enough space to dance. There were lots of people there to support Walking on Cars but respectful ones. Everyone seemed to have a good time and I saw lots of smiles around.

“Flying High” is another incredible song and if you listen closely you can hear the beautiful voice of Sorcha in the background. Lots of “Uhhh’s” and “Hallelujah’s” were sung during “Two Stones” I got goosebumps. The energy was just incredible and that’s the trademark of any Walking on Cars show. Now this next song “Coldest Water” isn’t on their debut record called “Everything this Way” but it’s already on of the fans favourites since they were playing it on their last leg of the tour last year. It’s amazing if you can test new songs live in front of a crowd of people. That’s why I loved watching their reactions and I tried my best making them feel like they did a good job. But before we heard really new song we enjoyed “Always be with u”.

New Songs!

Patrick said that the album is 90% done! So this is good news Walking on Cars fans! 90% is good! I assume we will hear more next year and that’s great! ๐Ÿ™‚ “Waiting on the Corner”, “At my door”, “Nothing’s impossible” are the new songs we have been dying to hear. On my instagram account you can listen to some in the highlights section. I have to say they are awesome and fit perfectly into the set and their first album. They are powerful, rhythmic and just incredible – so Walking on Cars ๐Ÿ™‚ Guys if you read this, keep up the good work and finish that album! ๐Ÿ˜€

The last songs of this year’s Baloise Session

“Catch me if you can” and “Hand in Hand” were performed by Patrick, Sorcha, Paul, Evan and Ross. Yes, Ross who played the guitar instead of Dan. I can only assume that Dan wasn’t able to travel here so they had to find someone to help them out. It worked out well. He did a good job and fit right in however I did miss Dan LOL I guess it was just me ๐Ÿ˜‰ Off they went for the little encore break.
A piano was brought on stage and Pat played “Coming my way” which is another song we heard before but isn’t on an album yet. Such a beautiful ballade! So moving and I was sooo happy that everyone shut up – we could literally listen to the piano and Pat’s voice and sink into the song – so much that when it finished we needed a sec to gather our thoughts and a huge applause followed. “Don’t mind me” was next but lots of people were waiting for “Speeding Cars”. This song finished the 2018 Baloise Session with the whole audience singing “Heya Heya” ๐Ÿ™‚ A very beautiful special moment.

Nico Santos steps into the light of the music business

Nico Santos released his debut record “Streets of Gold” on Oct, 12th. “Rooftop” immediately resonated with me and it became this spring’s favourite song of mine. But he was already working behind the scenes as a singer songwriter for years. We all know Mark Forster’s “Wir sind Gross” and yes he co-wrote the song. So when I was told that I could have a quick chat with Nico Santos I was really happy and I was super excited to get to know the person behind those songs.

So Nico, youโ€™re not a newbie in the music biz. So why did you release your debut album only just now?
I wanted to have the album just right so that I wonโ€™t say in 10 years time โ€žAhh I should have spent more time on itโ€œ. I wanted to have it perfect. I can listen to the record in one go and think wow I love every song so that I donโ€™t have to skip one.
How long did it take for it to be just perfect?
Streets of Gold – the title track I wrote 4 years ago. Since then I wrote 200 or 300 songs. Those are the 14 best songs which transport the best emotions I had at that time.
Streets of Gold – What does the the name mean?
Itโ€™s about the time before I started with music, before I found the right people to play music and the desire to play music. Itโ€™s about the desire to find the right path in life. Everyone knows that feeling. And for me it was music.
The cool thing was that when I moved to Berlin I find the right guys to build a team and create my new record.
But what does it actually mean?
If you look up synonyms for lucky โ€žStreets of Goldโ€œ comes up so itโ€™s the pursuit of happiness.
(A little side note on that: The saying comes from the time where Europeans immigrated to the US because people would say the streets are paved with gold over there.)
The record is so versatile. This morning you posted outtakes from your video shoot where you danced like Michael Jackson. So I assume his one of your idols but who else are your musical inspirations?
My parents, definitely. My Dadโ€™s a Jazz musician and my Mom does rock. But other than them Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake.
Did you see them live?
Yes, both. ๐Ÿ™‚
Prince and Stevie Wonder are inspirations too. My parents gave me a lot of music to listen to.
I think songwriting is so exciting. I saw John Legend on Saturdayโ€ฆ
John Legend, really? That is so cool I was just googling Gigs John Legend 2019 and found nothing! Where did he play?
At the Baloise Session. Itโ€™s a very cool venue with 10 gigs over 3 weeks and you are sitting at tables with candleโ€™s on them. It has a Jazz club vibe.
Wow that sounds really cool!
It is. Anyway John Legend mentioned that he starts with a melody and then finds words that fits the melody. What about you? How do you write your songs?
Itโ€™s different every time. I think if you had a recipe how to write good songs everyone would want it. There are certain tips or ways how itโ€™s best to write songs. I usually sit at the piano and transport my feelings into chords. Quite often a little lyrics slice comes up and then I use my phone to write it down. I think I have like 1500 voice messages! ๐Ÿ™‚ A lot of ideasโ€ฆ
But most of the time I sit at the piano like 40 / 50 % and see what happens.
Sounds a lot like John Legend! ๐Ÿ™‚
Your stage name is Spanish and you are German. So why did you choose English as your language of music?
I grew up with English music. Back then I wasnโ€™t interested in Spanish music and I wasnโ€™t familiar with German music because I grew up in Mallorca. My parents inspired me with English music and thatโ€™s why English is the language I felt most comfortable with when I write songs. Now Iโ€™d gotten used to it and I feel like I can get across my feelings better in English. When Iโ€™m at songwriting sessions I see that my German isnโ€™t as good as others. They grew up in Germany and went to school there. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m happy to be able to sing in English and there are not many German artists singing in English.
Thatโ€™s why my blog is in English too!
Kekoas Korner and Nico Santos
Your – I call it “spring hit” – was โ€žRooftopโ€œ. When I heard it the first time I knew I loved it immediately!
Very cool! Thank you that makes me happy ๐Ÿ™‚
Sometimes you have those songs that you know that you love them immediately. Do you have this too and if yes, which oneโ€™s are yours?
From others or my own?
From others.
At the moment I love the record by Khalid that just came out. I just loved every songโ€ฆ โ€žBetterโ€œ, โ€žSaturday Nightsโ€œโ€ฆ I like Rโ€™nโ€™B a lot. 6LACK is really cool. Heโ€™s got some cool features too. Amazing record!
And now your songs?
With โ€žRooftopโ€œ I had a good gut feeling. If you jump up in the studio and youโ€™re really happy that you wrote the song then itโ€™s a good sign. Sometimes you think itโ€™s good and then itโ€™s bad but if you get upโ€ฆ
Oh yeah, I know that feeling!
I googled and I found this Filipino actor Nico Santos. How often do you get mistaken for him?
When โ€žHomeโ€œ came out a lot of people wrote and tagged him by mistake because I didnโ€™t have Instagram and Twitter. So he wrote on Twitter: โ€žIโ€™m not Nico Santos the singerโ€œ. It started to annoy him so he tweeted: โ€žNico start your own IG and Twitter account!โ€œ And I think OK, now I really have to.
So you two are in contact?
No. He wrote it and others sent it to me and so I knew I had to something now. Iโ€™ve never met him but I think itโ€™s funny how two complete different people have the same name.
3rd of May youโ€™re back in Zurich at X-tra for the final gig of your tour. What do you expect from the Swiss audience?
I was in Berne at Energy Air and I had one of the coolest shows ever! The energy was unbelievable, it was a lot of fun. Itโ€™s weird because in Germany people say theyโ€™re a bit aloof and you Swiss say it too but in Berne I thought I was Justin Bieber! ๐Ÿ˜€ I pointed at something and everyone completely lost their minds. Itโ€™s not like that in Germany. I tried a few different spots and the energy was the same!
Really? I had a very different experience the last few years? Maybe itโ€™s the front rows Iโ€™m too old for that! ๐Ÿ™‚
Ha, no! Maybe itโ€™s that but you know during the โ€žohh ohh ohhโ€œ part I thought the whole football stadium sang with me!
Cool, so the same at X-tra in May! ๐Ÿ˜€
The same at X-tra in May, yes ๐Ÿ™‚
Last question:
What needs to happen that you say โ€žYup I made itโ€œ with my music?
I donโ€™t think this exists. I never want to have this thought. Music is ambitious as well as your whole life. I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s ever a point where I say โ€žNow I have 100 golden recordsโ€œ I made it. I think my wish is that I can make music my whole life and be happy and then, yes, then I made it ๐Ÿ˜€
Fan questions:
Daniela whoโ€™s joining us at the gig in May asked: What made you step in front of the mic and not only write music for others anymore?
It always was a bit of a wish for me. When โ€žHomeโ€œ worked in Germany with my voice, a song that I wrote in my when I was little, I thought it be cool to do my own music. The song was a bit too deep house for me so I wanted to do my own and perform them. That was the first moment I thought OK now I gotta start doing it.
Then I wrote โ€žSafeโ€œ and after that โ€žRooftopโ€œ.
Kellin asked: Whatโ€™s your dream location where you want to perform?
Madison Square Garden. Every artist wants to play there ๐Ÿ™‚
True. I heard it before in my previous interviews.
I heard that Stromae is the only French singing musician that sold out Madison Square Garden twice. If you managed to that, thatโ€™s not too bad!
And Iโ€™d love to play Plaรงa de toros de Palma in Mallorca.
Oh wow, yes thatโ€™s a great location ๐Ÿ™‚ I think thatโ€™s where the show โ€žWetten dassโ€œ was filmed. Have you been in that location?
Yes, I actually watched “Wetten dassโ€œ and another programme where Melanie C performed her hit โ€žNever be the same againโ€œ.
Last Fan Question from Anna: Whatโ€™s you favourite dessert?
It changed recently! Now itโ€™s cheesecake.
What was it before cheesecake?
Everything with ice cream. It didnโ€™t matter it just needed ice cream. I ate like 3 ice creams a day and now itโ€™s cheesecake. Princess Cheesecake in Berlin is awesome. People might start saying โ€žNico stop itโ€œ.
I totally get what you mean I donโ€™t know how people can have summer bodies! I have the best ice cream guy around the corner called Gelati am See and Iโ€™m there every lunch time.
Yeah, everyone talks about summer bodies but I donโ€™t know how they do it either.
So that was it! Thank you so much Nico!
Cool, thank you!

Jason Derulo brought a piece of his heart to Zurich

Thanks to abc Production I got see Jason Derulo last night. I saw his Isle of Malta show on MTV and I knew that he’d be putting up a great show. But I was surprised at how personal he made the show. Of course there was dancing but there was also quite good singing and a lot of nice and quick talks. What I loved too is how the atmosphere was super laid back and everyone seemed to have a great time!

Marcus & Martinus

The night started with the newest teenie crush Marcus & Martinus. The two very young and very sweet twins are the next Justin Bieber. The two gathered quite an audience who came just for them. The girls were partying already. It was super cute to watch and of course you could hear lots of screaming because good old clapping is out ๐Ÿ˜€ I have to say I was quite sceptical at first but they did a pretty good job warming up the crowd with their pop music. Most girls already had the time of their life!

DJ Jae Murphy

Due to the support act there was a very funny mixture in the audience. You had the kids and teenies, the peeps who were into dancing, couples and women in their twenties and thirties who knew Jason Derulo songs from their night out. For the next 20 minutes Jason Derulo’s DJ Jae Murphy took the stage and turned the Hallenstadion into a Club. He set the perfect mood for the following 90 mins with Jason Derulo.

Jasoooon Deruuuloooo

At 9 a very long intro video showed Jason Derulo in Africa explaining to us why the tour is called 2 Sides. Jason is half human half lion. And that’s how he came on stage – like a lion king with “Watcha Say”. After a very old song he threw in his newest song “Tip Toe” and he literally was on his tip toes and of course almost all clothes had to go so he could show off his abs. With “Don’t wanna go home / Shots” we definitely got turned into a club and lots of people were already dancing on front of their seats. Because of the laid back atmosphere people didn’t feel like they had to be afraid of standing up.

One of my personal favourites “Wiggle” was next. However I didn’t really like the way they performed it live. I felt like the wiggles weren’t too clear, it was kinda too rocky. What we also noticed is that – were we sat – the mix wasn’t too good. The music was louder than Jason Derulo’s voice. A beautiful ballade called “Trumpets” was next where we could get out our phone lights. Derulo now said that he is doing something special he wants to try out new music for his family: “Make Up” – a very cool uptempo song with his typical style. You can be looking forward to hearing it!
P1040299
“In my Head”, “Get Ugly”, “Let me be the one” (Yes, he brought out the treadmills on stage for that and I cannot tell you how much I love that effect) and “Marry Me” followed. Of course lots of girls wished that Jason Derulo would asked that question to them LOL And the romantic atmosphere continued. Derulo asked his back ground singer who was in beautiful dress to join him up front. Together they sang the Little Mix duet “Secret Love Song”. And let me tell you wow her voice blew us away!

Up next was “IT-GIRL” and the girls put their signs up “Can I be your it-girl?”. After the first few chords he interrupted the song and said “Hold Up, Hold up I cannot sing this song without an IT-Girl”. His bodyguard picked a girl from the front row and she was brought on stage to be serenaded by Jason Derulo. She couldn’t believe it and for us it was great fun to watch!

Where are my single ladies at?

With that he introduced his next song “Ridin’ solo”. This hit was followed by “If I’m lucky” and “Cheyenne” where his dancing was supported by a haunted house in the background. “Swalla” with Nicki Minaj was next and it was time to shimmy ๐Ÿ˜€ Before we had to be “Breathing” ๐Ÿ˜‰ It is amazing how many songs you actually know just from going out and listening on the radio. Jason Derulo has so many hits and knows how to put them together in show! “Goodbye” started and I already thought oh oh it’s time to say Goodbye. What a great song to finish! But he wasn’t finished yet ๐Ÿ™‚

Normally the artists go off stage and we start “Oh Oh Oh” to the bass line of Seven Nation Army but this time we did it together! ๐Ÿ™‚ And finally Jason Derulo talked dirty to us! At this point I was a bit worried about the kids singing this song because I mean I hope they don’t know what “Talk dirty 2 me” is ๐Ÿ˜€ Jason closed the show with “Want to Want me” and all I could think of was why isn’t Luke Bryan popping up with some headphones on? If you don’t know what I’m talking about here’s the link:

Amazing right??!! And sooo funny haha
P1040332
But what came next I really didn’t expect at all and it was my absolute highlight of last night. Jason Derulo walked into the middle of the stage into the crowd and said:

Thank you for coming out tonight. I hope you saw that every piece of this show is a piece of my heart. My crew is like my family and you are now part of it too.
I do not take this for granted. You are the reason why I am able to live my dream. And you can live you dream too. I don’t care how old you are, what you religion is or the colour of your skin. I want you to have what you desire so go after it! I don’t care how long it takes. Make it happen! ‘Cause I believe in you and you should believe in you too!
I love y’all! God Bless you and Good night!

What a way to finish this amazing 90 mins show! Again thank you abc production and thank you Jason Derulo!

Following his dreams from Basel to Hollywood

Benjamin Keys contacted me a few weeks ago. His e-mail immediately touched my heart and I knew I had to know more about this guy and support him in his dream: Living in Hollywood and tour the world with other fellow musicians. So of course I went on a little internet search including his homepage:ย benjaminkeysmusic.com
Obviously we couldn’t meet in person so we schedule a Skype interview even though the time difference was super difficult to overcome ๐Ÿ˜€ So here it is:
Youโ€™ve been on big tours with artists like Ira May. So what would be your favourite or most special venue you still want to play in or have played in?
When I lived in Switzerland I went to the Openair Frauenfeld every year. I must have gone about 9 times in my life. If I ever play there with an American artist, that would definitely be a dream come true and very special for me. Other venues I would love to play are the Hallenstadion in Zรผrich or Madison Square Garden in New York.
I understand. Lots of artists would love to play in the latter one. So speaking about venues Iย read that youโ€™ll be touring with Ollie Gabriel next year. Who would be your favourite artist to tour with?
When people ask me, I always used to say my favorite artist to play for is Justin Timberlake. Bruno Mars recently took his spot though and is now definitely my dream tour. My dream tour of all time would be Michael Jackson, no doubt.
Why did Bruno Mars take JT’s spot?
Timberlake’s Futuresex/lovesound tour was just the ultimate modern pop tour for me personally. But then came Bruno Mars with his 24K Magic tour and topped it! Plus I don’t really like JT’s new record.
Whatโ€™s your favourite thing about touring?
The idea of traveling to different places in the world and at the same making music is an incredible thought to me. Also getting paid for it instead of paying for it. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Haha I totallyย understand that! So we spoke about Bruno Mars, JT and Michael Jackson.ย Who are your musical influences?
I had many different phases of heros and inpirations. My first album was “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles. Later I got into Rock and Punk and went from Blink 182 to Limp Bizkit to Rage Againt The Machine. And then one day I discovered hip hop and fell deeply in love with it. My favorite rapper of all time would be Nas. My favorite album of all time “Voodoo” by D’Angelo. And my favorite artist hands down Michael Jackson. Today I mostly listen to R’n’B influenced music and love to dig out old Prince records or see what Anderson Paak is up to.
Hollywood
ย Wow that’s a pretty big range. Just like me ๐Ÿ™‚ Now let’s fast forward 5 years where do you want to be? Sorry I know it sounds like an interview question haha
I want to be a respected and in-demand keyboard player and tour the world. Also be healthy and live a happy life in Los Angeles.
We spoke about where you want to be but not where youโ€™ve came from. After graduating did you just pack up and leave without any job offer or did you organize everything from Switzerland?
Yes, after graduating my jazz studies in Luzern I basically packed up and left to go to Musicians Institute in Hollywood. I started planning my move around two years earlier though and had to apply for many scholarships and foundations to get the financial side of studying in the US covered.
Last question: What needs to happen that you would say โ€žYup I made it with my music!โ€œ Or did this already happen?
Oh I absolutely didn’t “make it” yet. I might have a slight feeling of making it, when I’ll embark on a world tour with a famous artist. But even then, the hustle obviously doesn’t stop. You have to always be on your toes to survive this fast-paced and crazy music business. And there is always a next step, so you must consistently find new ways to “make it”.
Well that was really interesting. Thank you for speaking to me and I wish you all the best for the future!

Ed Sheeran: 2 nights, 1 man, 1 voice, 1 guitar and 96'000 backing singers and dancers

In 2011 I got to see a young man without any tattoos playing the Kaufleuten Festsaal for the DRS3 showcase. I knew every song of his newest record “+” and stood in the front row and he won over the whole crowd. Fast forward 7 years that young man is full of tattoos and goes by the name of Ed Sheeran and turned out to be the biggest popstar of our time selling out stadiums around the world just like he had the last two nights in Zurich with the Letzigrund Stadium.

Jamie Lawson was unexpected

Jamie Lawson is signed up to Ed Sheeran’s record label so he got to be the first opening act of the night. Starting out is hard especially in front of people who didn’t come to see you! So I have so much respect for Jamie Lawson. With “Fall Into Me”, “Letter Never Sent”, “The Only Conclusion”, “Can’t See Straight” and “A little Mercy” he started his 30mins set. He’s such a lovely and funny guy and I really love his mellow songs especially “Wasn’t expecting that”. I bet a few people recognized this song when he started playing it. He did a fine job warming up the crowd and during his last song “Ahead of Myself” the crowd helped him out by singing “Badam Badam Badadada”. Love it!

Artist2watch: Selah Sue

Selah Sue sounds like a mix between Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse and she is coming to Kaufleuten on Aug. 28th with her very special acoustic set.ย

Who’s Selah Sue?

Selah Sue is a belgian artist who debuted her self titled record in 2011. She earned herself various recognitions along the way until she released her 2nd album in 2015 called Reason. But what struck me as the most interesting is that she participated in an open mic night which was organized by none other than Milow himself who then asked her to be his supporting act.

What does Selah Sue sound like?

To me she sounds like a mix between Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse. She’s got a very special and recognizable voice and the chill factor of Erykah Badu. I think her music is perfect for your chilled evenings with friends. The most famous song which also got some air play is the following:

When can I see Selah Sue live?

Selah Sue is currently touring with a very special acoustic set of her songs. And believe me if you hear a show is strictly acoustical you gotta go. This is something you don’t get to hear every day. I bet you won’t regret it. Just Because and Kaufleuten are presenting Selah Sue – Acoustic on Aug. 28th !

You probably already read about Saint City Orchestra in Caribana Festival review. But now I can properly introduce you to them! They were nice enough to invite me to their gig at the Rock the Ring and let me tell you it was an amazing experience and I am so grateful!

Foo Fighters: From A**hole to Motherf***er

I knew I wanted to see them as soon as they announced the gig last year. However I wasn’t happy with the ticket prices. Although it’s actually quite normal for stadium gig to have super expensive tickets. But I wanted to have a shirt to remember this gig so I waited and waited and luckily I got my chance a day before the gig!
I decided to drive to the gig because I didn’t want to be sitting on the overly full SBB train back to Zurich. It was a great decision for the way back but driving there was absolutely madness. I felt like everyone in Switzerland was “driving” to Bern. I now really feel for those people who do this every time coming to Zurich. I feel very blessed to be living here and being able to see big stars within a normal driving distance. Thanks to this lovely drive I missed out on The Kills and Wolf Alice. But I did hear that especially Wolf Alice killed it! ๐Ÿ™‚ If you want to read more about the two supports check out Sarah’s review: Planetsarah.ch.

Savage Irish Night at Amboss Rampe

I saw Gavin James at the Kaufleuten Zermatt Unplugged two years ago. Unfortunately I had to leave his set after 30 mins to see Aloe Blacc because the timing back then was really bad. However what I saw of the set I enjoyed very much so that made me go to his 2nd gig at the sold out Amboss Rampe.
The Irish Night was opened by Declan Greene who is your typical Irish guy – or at least that’s how I see it. He’s super funny and a very talented singer songwriter. Playing the guitar and singing nice songs and cracking jokes in-between and warming the crowd up. That’s what I call a good opener!
